Rajasthan Royals Welcome Back Rahul Dravid as Head Coach

The Rajasthan Royals have announced that Rahul Dravid, the former Indian captain and coach, is returning to the team as their Head Coach. Dravid has signed a multi-year contract and will be working with the Royals immediately.

Rahul Dravid previously played a key role with the Royals as both captain and coach from 2011 to 2015. Now, he will be working closely with Kumar Sangakkara, the team’s Director of Cricket, to plan and execute the team’s overall cricket strategy.

At 51 years old, Dravid is known as one of the greatest batters in Indian cricket. His coaching journey actually began with the Royals in 2014, after he transitioned from being the team’s captain to becoming their mentor.

Dravid’s Coaching Success

Since then, Dravid has taken on many important roles in Indian cricket. He has worked with the National Cricket Academy (NCA), the Indian Men's U19 team, and the Indian Men's Senior team. Under his leadership, India achieved the top rankings in Test, ODI, and T20I cricket, and recently won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Royals’ Excitement About Dravid’s Return

Welcoming Rahul Dravid back, Jake Lush McCrum, CEO of Royals Sports Group, said, “We are thrilled to have Rahul back with the franchise. Jake Lush McCrum also mentioned that Dravid is already working with Kumar Sangakkara and the team as they prepare for the upcoming IPL retention and auction.

Expressing his excitement, Rahul Dravid said, “I’m happy to be back with the Rajasthan Royals, which I consider my 'home.' After the World Cup, this feels like the right challenge for me. The Royals have made great progress thanks to the hard work of Manoj, Jake, Kumar, and the team. I’m excited to help take this team to the next level with the talent and resources we have.”

Manoj Badale, the lead owner of Rajasthan Royals, also welcomed Dravid, saying, “Rahul has a long history with the Royals. It’s where he started his coaching career. He has very few equals in global sport, both as a player and a coach, and we’re proud to bring him back.”

Kumar Sangakkara, who was the Head Coach for the last four seasons, also praised Dravid, saying, “Rahul is one of the greatest players and an extraordinary coach. His ability to guide talent and help them perform at the highest level will be crucial for us as we aim to challenge for the title.”
